Performance of Xavier Montsalvatge’s Music at Instituto Cervantes

27 September 2012:  On the night before the full concert Homage to Catalonia: In Celebration of the Centenary of Xavier Montsalvatge, with the Foundation for Iberian Music, the Instituto Cervantes New York is hosting a pre-concert presentation of some of Montsalvatge’s music.  The evening will include the performance by Sato Moughalian and members of Perspectives Ensemble, and a roundtable discussion with Benet Casablancas and Ángel Gil-Ordóñez.

Short roundtable: Montsalvatge:  Between Europe and the Americas
As a preview to the concert in celebration of Xavier Montsalvatge’s music, which will be presented by the Morgan Library on September 28, participants will discuss the role of the Europe and Americas on his music, which reveals echoes, on the one hand, of Ravel and other French composers and, on the other, his so-called “Antillanist” aesthetic and the influence of jazz.
