March 7, 2014: Musicologist Germán Gan-Quesada, a visiting scholar at the Foundation for Iberian Music during the Fall 2014 semester, will present a lecture at the CUNY Graduate Center on the avant-garde in 20th Century Spanish music. His talk, Spain Was Not (So) Different: In Search of a Spanish Music Avant-Garde, will examine the ways that Spanish composers responded to various trends in the avant-garde world in the period 1956-1975. Gan-Quesada completed his Ph.D. in Art History-Musicology from the University of Granada in 2003, completing his dissertation on the composer Cristóbal Halffter and is, at present, a Lecturer in Musicology in the Department of Arts and Musicology, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The speaker will be introduced by Antoni Pizà, director of the Foundation for Iberian Music.
The lecture will take place at 2:30 pm in Room 3491.
