Other Recommendations
Midtown Lunch is a great guide to meals under $10: http://midtownlunch.com/. Many recommended restaurants and food carts are a slight hike from the Graduate Center but well worth a visit.

Bryant Park area (several more franchise cafes and salad shops, lots of good food trucks)
