SEMINAR: Hybrid Barcelona: New music and new multicultural identities in Catalonia

April 25, 2009

25 April, 2009
The Foundation for Iberian Music presents a one-day seminar.

The globalization of the musical experience, immigration, and the resulting creation of musical and cultural identities that are transnational and multicultural have produced diverse processesof transculturalization and hybridization of musical styles and genres thus creating a new musical environment in Catalonia. This situation combines diverse cultural and musical strata and sediments such as rai, sardana, heavy metal, rumba, tango and electronica, all of them coincidening at the same place (Catalonia, but especially Barcelona) but result in new musical styles and genres that at the same time create new identities, reinforcing, reshaping, and even cancelling pre-existent identities.
