The Brook Center mourns the passing of Charles Rosen, celebrated pianist and writer upon whom President Barack Obama conferred the National Humanities Medal in early 2012. Rosen was the author of the acclaimed The Classical Style, a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books, and a passionate advocate of new music. Rosen inaugurated the Brook Center’s new Music in 21st-Century Society lecture series, delivering an inspired talk as well as captivating piano playing, on 18 April 2012, perhaps his last public lecture and performance.  Here is that lecture and performance:
